Monster Dex
676 creatures to discover across all zones — from basic arithmetic meadows to university-level calculus canyons.
What are Monsters?
Monsters are the enemies — and allies — at the heart of Math Quest. Each creature lives in a specific Zone tied to a math topic: addition and subtraction monsters roam the Meadow, while logarithm and calculus monsters guard the higher zones. You battle them by answering math questions correctly — every right answer deals damage, and when a monster's HP reaches zero you have a chance to capture it.
This page is the complete Monster Dex — a reference catalogue of every creature in the game, sorted by rarity. Click any monster to see its full stats, which zone it lives in, and the math topic you need to master to defeat it.
Rarity, Zones, and Math Topics
Elementary & Middle School zones
Found in zones covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals. These are the arithmetic foundations that every higher math topic depends on — and the same operations a computer executes billions of times per second at the hardware level.
Middle to High School zones
Guards zones like Algebra Tower, Percent Palace, Exponent Expanse, and Ratio Ruins. These topics power real-world skills: percentages calculate interest and tax, exponents describe exponential growth in populations and compound returns, algebra solves the equations behind every physics simulation.
High School to University zones
Inhabits zones covering trigonometry, logarithms, statistics, linear equations, polynomials, and geometry. Trigonometry drives computer graphics and signal processing; statistics underpins machine learning and data science; logarithms scale the decibel system and the complexity of search algorithms.
University-level zones
Only found in the deepest zones — Calculus Canyon, Matrix Maze, Logic Labyrinth, Graph Theory Grotto, and beyond. These are the mathematical tools behind cryptography, neural networks, compiler design, and differential equations that model everything from fluid dynamics to financial derivatives.
How to Capture Monsters and Set Your Character
1. Defeat them in Battle Mode
Go to any Zone and start fighting. Answer math questions correctly to deal damage — accuracy and speed both matter, just as an efficient algorithm beats a slow one even if both reach the correct result.
2. Capture on defeat
When a monster's HP hits zero, a capture roll happens automatically. Common monsters are captured most often; legendary ones rarely surrender. Each successful capture adds the monster to your Collection permanently.
3. Set as your active character
Visit your Collection and tap any captured monster to make it your active battle character. Your active character appears in every fight as a symbol of the math topics you have already conquered.
